Hi everyone, I have a fun new knit hat pattern for you today! This is my Sweethearts Knit Beanie Pattern and these super cute hearts are a great way to practice beginning knit colorwork!
This knit hat is beginner friendly and includes both written and charted instructions to make the colorwork super easy!
I couldn’t decide which pom to use, what do you think? I think the white looks cute, but that hot pink pom was super cute as well! Decisions, decisions…
Supplies:
-
- 4mm/US6 16” circular needle
- 5mm/US8 16” circular needle
- Tapestry/yarn needle (for weaving in ends)
- 5mm/US8 DPNs for finishing
- Optional: Faux Fur Pom
Yarn: 1 skein DK weight yarn (100g)
Sizing: Fits teen/adult with 22-24” head circumference.
For this project I used A Homespun House in the Gumdrops and Candy Canes fingering colorway. I held double to get that DK weight and then added a creamy DK alpaca for the hearts. Then I added a McPorter Farms Faux Fur Pom which is so soft and fluffy!
I also added a fun mini-heart section on the hat brim which I think makes it extra special
My sweet model braved the freezing temperatures to model this hat for me! She’s getting to be quite the pro.
This pattern is beginner friendly, but you do need to know how to knit, purl, and change colors, which is super easy! Whenever I change colors, I just drop the first color, grab the new color and make a loop leaving about a 6” tail. Then I slip my needle into the first stitch and loop the new color over my needle just as I would normally knit the stitch.
I also plan to make a few beginning knit tutorials soon, so keep an eye out for those!
Isn’t this faux fur pom lovely? It has darker tips on the soft natural color which make it extra special! I got this pom from Colorful Yarns Knit Shop which is my local yarn shop. They have a huge selection of fun poms!
