I’m going to do a short series of posts titled ‘Daily Homeschool Schedule’ for you all. I’ve had countless questions about our homeschool schedule. And you can see a basic overview of our daily schedule here.
But more specifically you’ve been asking questions about how long we do each subject, how many days per week, and what our day looks like hour by hour for each grade level.
So for the next few weeks I’m going to share our schedule in a more detail by each grade level.

Today we’ll be taking a closer look into the life of the Teeny Tot. She’s currently 4 years old and doing preschool this year. Since she won’t be doing kindergarten until next year, we’ll be doing another round of Letter of the Week and add in a few of the K4 activities as she’s ready.
Here’s our Basic Preschool Schedule:
- 8:30am – Breakfast / Family Devotion Time
- 9:00am – Calendar Time & Daily Learning Notebook
- 10:00am – Phonics
- 10:10am – Fine Motor Skills
- 10:30am – Color / Shapes Recognition
- 10:45am – Math Activities
- 11:00am – Logical Thinking
- 11:15am – Large Motor Skills
- 11:30am – Art
- 11:45am – Reading
- 12:00 noon – Lunch/Outside
- 1:00pm – Free
Her schedule is pretty simple, and it can vary from day to day. While I just shared our basic frame with you, keep in mind we do not rigidly follow this schedule, and our days vary quite a bit.
The other thing I’d like to mention is that if the Teeny Tot were my oldest I would probably not be doing school with her every single day. I would more likely do a Monday-Wednesday-Friday schedule with her.
But since we have older kiddos doing school, the Teeny Tot likes to be included daily. She even usually stays in the school room by choice after she’s done with her own activities.
Since she’s doing my Letter of the Week curriculum again, she is focusing on one letter each week. I sort out the activities so that she’s doing a bit of each skill every day.
In the Letter of the Week lesson plans (shown above), these activities are planned out for you, so you don’t have to do a schedule like the one at the top of this post unless you prefer to modify the curriculum.

On most days the Teeny Tot does school from about 9am – noon. Like I said, it can vary. Often times she is done before that, it just depends on how long her activities take her that day.
And that’s about it!
I’d love to hear some comments what you do for preschool each day!

The Letter of the Week is a full 26 week preschool course designed to give your student a head-start on preparing for kindergarten! It is a 26 week curriculum that’s full of educational activities that focus on the letter recognition, sounds, number recognition, counting, basic math skills, pre-writing practice, and all the necessary fine-motor skills that will be required for your preschooler to be ready for kindergarten! Included are weekly lesson plans that cover all the subjects a preschooler needs and more!
Hi, I’m considering homeschooling my children, and I was wondering if you taught your daughter when she was 3 years of age. My daughter is 4, and my son is turning 3 next month. I was unsure if I should have him learn right along with his sister, and just reintroduce him to the same curriculum again next year. I feel he is capable of handling the material, and I do not want to exclude him. What did you do for your daughter, do you have a PrePreK curriculum? Any information is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Hi Monica,
Yes, I started my LOTW with Teeny Tot at age 3. Mainly to give her something to keep her occupied and let her feel like she is included in our homeschooling. I normally go through my LOTW twice at age 3, and again at age 4 adding in some of my K4 activities as they’re ready.
Erica – Wanting to get LOTW for my 4 year old and also your planner; however, don’t have color printer/copier and was wondering if you would offer suggestion/tell me what you use? I don’t want to take time/effort to research technology as really need to get my homeschool stuff set up and also keep up with the home and bible study. Would appreciate your suggestion/info. Thanks so much for your meal planning, downloadables, curriculum ideas, etc. Thanks for blessing me daily, Lori
Thank you times one million!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’ve been looking for something exactly like this so I can get an idea of what others are doing. THANK YOU!!! It is so helpful! I”m very schedule oriented. 🙂

oooo I love the updated lesson plans! (the color coding) :o)
I have a 4 year old too, and while I LOVE the K4 curriculum I too find that he is not quite ready for all of the activities yet. He loves doing some, but he struggles with othersl. Are you going to continue with K4 next year as your little one is ready, or are you going to do something completely different?
I’m going to continue with K4 for her next year. She’s just not quite ready for it this year, plus it would put her a grade ahead, and I don’t like to do that.
Just a quick questions. If you are doing school with your Teeny Tot all morning, when do you work with your older kids? This is what I’m struggling with. I have 4 kids very close in age/grade to yours. I have a 5th grader, 2nd grader, 4 year preschool, and 3 year preschool. Right now, my older 2 do language arts and math in the morning (separately, with me teaching them the lesson, and then them doing their own “homework”), and then we are doing MFW together in the afternoon (while the little two nap or rest). I am finding it terribly difficult to find the time to do much more than 1-2 activities with the little two in the mornings.
I love the daily schedule. Would love to see how you do your other children, too. I have twins that are in 4th and a 1st grader. I am struggling balancing everyone at one time. I feel like a pinball machine.
I love seeing how you do preschool! 🙂
Right now I have three children of school age (ages 8, 7 and 5 1/2), and then littles aged 4, 2 1/2, and 16 months. I haven’t had any focused preschool at all until the end of summer this year. I have been finding it so hard to give any focus to the littler ones if I am going to get just the basics done with my older three, but I didn’t like missing them out altogether. So now this is how we do it (and I’m much happier!):
Breakfast, followed by chores. Then it’s usually 9.30am or thereabouts, and we all cram onto the sofa and I read a chapter of Leading Little Ones to God. After that my eldest takes a turn on the laptop, my 7-year-old gets out the tape measure and some reference books on animals (something they like doing), and my 5-year-old gets out the magnetic mosaics kit. I head to the kitchen table with my 3 littlest. The 1-year-old goes in the booster seat with a snack and then some chunky crayons and paper. Meanwhile I do your LOTW curriculum with my 4 and 2 year olds. I have chosen to do a different letter each day, and only to select a couple of activities for that letter before going onto the next one – just to get us started on actually DOING something for preschool! I didn’t want to aim too high. It is working so well! I will do the full curriculum with them later in the year. They start with the colouring page, and then do two of the activities (a matching activity usually, and a fine motor skill activity), and then we do a craft – either your cut-and-paste choice, or one that I’ve found on Pinterest that involves paint or glitter or collage, but which ties into the theme of that letter from LOTW. Then we go to the sofa again and read 3 stories of their choice, and I put the 1-year-old to bed for his late morning nap (he doesn’t nap in the afternoon).
That’s all the pre-school we do, and I think it’s probably about 45 minutes or so in total. They love it, and it still allows me time to do the one-on-one work for maths, reading, and spelling while my littlest is napping late in the morning. We NEVER manage to finish it all before lunch, but the main part is done, and that makes it easier to finish the leftover lessons in the afternoon while the others play. Usually they are going a bit nuts by the last lesson (spelling for my 8-year-old mid-afternoon – we use AAS), so I put a Bible animation on for the 20 minutes it takes us to do spelling.
I’m SO HAPPY having a pre-school slot at last, even though it’s short and doesn’t give us time to cover the curriculum in the way you have it laid out. At least we’re doing something! 🙂 And I think they do better for having that focus first. They are so proud of their work to show Daddy when he gets home!
I will tweak our schedule and re-do the LOTW curriculum with them in the New Year because I’m due to have a baby in a few weeks and we’ll stop school for a while after that.
I forgot to say, my 2 1/2 year old isn’t ready for LOTW, but he tags along so that he’s getting some focus with his 4-year-old brother. He scribbles happily on the colouring pages, is learning to colour-match with your activities, and loves anything to do with “groooo” (glue) – I pre-cut his cut and paste activities and he really enjoys it. So he is happy doing LOTW, but I just let him go with the flow and don’t expect anything in particular from him – it’s just for his enjoyment really. Sorry that was such a long comment above! :/
Do you have the lesson plans in a file? I purchased the LOTW curriculum two years ago and don’t recall this being in there. Looks great!
Hi Erica! I love the new weekly LOTW lesson plan pages! I purchased LOTW this last spring and was wondering if I could get the lesson plan file update? Let me know if I need to email you this question. Thanks for the mini series about your daily scheduling. Ours is pretty flex, but we try to be done before lunch time. I have a 6 year old and a 4 year old – both boys. We love your journals and we love your LOTW! Thanks for sharing with us!
