Happy Monday everyone! Today I have a fun giveaway for you. It’s the Magnetic Elapsed Time Set by Learning Resources. This fun tool is an easy way to help students understand how time progresses.

I personally like the segmented timeline that comes with it to help the counting process. Sometimes the circular shape of the clock can be confusing I think, so it’s nice to have it in this format as well.

What are the details?

  • The Magnetic Elapsed Time Set is $24.99
  • The set includes 2 magnetic clocks with repositionable hands, and a 24-hour timeline with “start” and “end” labels, and removable guide numbers.
  • The clocks are 10”

How do we use this?

I put them up on our magnetic white board as shown above and then set the clocks to different times. Next I have Tinker Bell position the “start” and “end” markers on the timeline strip. Together we count the time between the markers to see how much time has elapsed between the two clocks.

We also do this in reverse, I will set the “start” and “end” markers on the timeline, then Tinker Bell will place the hands in the correct position on the circular clock faces. Next we count the time going around the clock face and then the strip to verify.

What do we think?

I like this display, it really helps practice how to read a clock for younger kids, and also helps illustrate how we count the passing of time. It is fairly large as you can see, so you do need to make sure you have a space large enough to accommodate it. The full 24-strip will not fit on our little whiteboard, so I just place the ones we needed on it. You could also use this on a table instead of a magnetic board if you don’t have one. I also like how there are both the round clock faces as well as the segmented timeline to help show how time passes.

  1. I am new to the homeschooling world and so excited to start teaching my three kiddos! The clock set looks quite nifty, I think it would be a great, hands-on way to teach time to little people. Thank you for the Learning Resources link, I have never been to the site before and it looks dangerous…as in I could spend way too much time and money on it =).

  2. I would love to have this set because it looks like it is a very fun and functional. I have a soon to be four year old and this would help make teaching him a lot easier than the wooden clock I had planned on using. The strip is a really good idea!

  3. This set would be great to help my little ones learn to tell time. I like the fact that the clocks are so big, making it easy for little hands and easier to see. I also like the time bar at the bottom offering another way for a child to “see” how much time has passed. This is a great teaching tool.

  4. I would like to win this set because I have been looking for a clock set for my children and the few that we have tried haven’t held up to the test of time and we are again looking. I have considered a set of board clocks, but they don’t include the elapsed time line and since that is such a hard concept to grasp I believe my children would benefit from a set that included that feature.

  5. WOW! I am so happy to learn about this time teaching tool! My son is 11 and has Aspergers Syndrome which makes time management next to impossible and he has yet to effectively read a clock. I’ve tried a couple of other methods, but they haven’t worked well at all. His challenges mean he needs very clear visuals to understand abstract concepts—-this looks like it fits the bill!! I would love to win but will plan to order one if I don’t. Thank you so much for sharing!!! I am excited about this!!
