Happy Monday everyone! Today I have a fun giveaway for you. It’s the Magnetic Elapsed Time Set by Learning Resources. This fun tool is an easy way to help students understand how time progresses.

I personally like the segmented timeline that comes with it to help the counting process. Sometimes the circular shape of the clock can be confusing I think, so it’s nice to have it in this format as well.

What are the details?

  • The Magnetic Elapsed Time Set is $24.99
  • The set includes 2 magnetic clocks with repositionable hands, and a 24-hour timeline with “start” and “end” labels, and removable guide numbers.
  • The clocks are 10”

How do we use this?

I put them up on our magnetic white board as shown above and then set the clocks to different times. Next I have Tinker Bell position the “start” and “end” markers on the timeline strip. Together we count the time between the markers to see how much time has elapsed between the two clocks.

We also do this in reverse, I will set the “start” and “end” markers on the timeline, then Tinker Bell will place the hands in the correct position on the circular clock faces. Next we count the time going around the clock face and then the strip to verify.

What do we think?

I like this display, it really helps practice how to read a clock for younger kids, and also helps illustrate how we count the passing of time. It is fairly large as you can see, so you do need to make sure you have a space large enough to accommodate it. The full 24-strip will not fit on our little whiteboard, so I just place the ones we needed on it. You could also use this on a table instead of a magnetic board if you don’t have one. I also like how there are both the round clock faces as well as the segmented timeline to help show how time passes.

  1. I am new to homeschooling by two boys, ages 5 and 4, and would love to introduce them to concept of time so they can better understand how it hows and I believe that this learning set would be a perfect fit to help to learn about time and to help me teach the concept to them.

  3. I’d love to win this because I’d love to help my three kiddos learn more about telling time. We have just been learning about telling time with our oldest and our second will be starting soon. I think this tool would really get my kids excited about manipulating the clocks and playing.

  4. I am a mom of 5. Over the past year or two my husband and I have been researching homeschooling. In the past few months I feel the Lord has confirmed to us (through much prayer and fasting) to begin homeschooling in the Fall of 2013. We will be pulling our 3 children from their wonderful and amazing charter school and bringing them home to be taught along side a preschooler and toddler. Scary, but exciting! When I saw your website, I felt I had someone rock solid to watch and learn from. And when I saw this Time Set I knew it was perfect for two of my 3 kids who struggle with telling time. Plus, it’s portable and easily stored away. Even if I don’t win the raffle…all I can say is THANK YOU!!! I love your website!

  5. We just started homeschooling a Kindergartner and 2nd grader. We had to spend quite a bit to “get going” so winning something like this to help our kids would be fantastic! Telling time really is a visual capability and having something nice and bright would definitely be great.

  6. I would love to win this to help teach time to my daughter as well as the 3 special needs children that I work with. It would really help a lot! You always have the best information on here, thank you!
