Welcome to Day 8 of my 10,000 Subscriber Celebration! I hope you’ve all had a good time up til now and I’ve got another great giveaway today!
I took Spanish in High School…let’s just say that was awhile back and leave it at that, shall we? And I’ve been looking for a good Spanish program to continue on our studies. I’ve heard some interesting reviews on Speekee and so I wanted to give Speekee Spanish a try, it looked like something my younger kids would really dig.
What is it?
Speekee Spanish is a Spanish program for children ages 3-elementary. Through a series of videos, children are introduced to Spanish through songs, puppets, and skits. Each episode also contains downloads that go along with the lesson.
What’s the Cost?
Online access: $7.50 per month
What did we think?
While I can’t say that my kids can speak Spanish just from watching the videos just yet, we also aren’t through the whole series. My oldest (age 8) didn’t really like Speekee, but my 4 and 6 year old definitely did! As a matter of fact I had a hard time getting them off of my computer so I could get some work done.
I wasn’t quite sure if it was working or not until my 5 year old turned around and said “Mom, to say ‘I like’ in Spanish you say ‘Me gusta!’ ” Very nice young padawan! The lessons did go a little fast for her, so that’s where my rusty Spanish kicked in. And yes, I sat and translated for her as they went, {uhem} and learned a little in the process. She can’t read that fast yet, so the subtitles weren’t too much help for her. She did get the easier ones though like cold, hot, hello, and my name is.
I do like that they’re speaking to each other on the video as well. Most Spanish programs do a good job at teaching vocab, but not such a great job at teaching how to use those words in sentences. The videos are totally in Spanish so its like watching Spanish TV…oh right…thus Speekee TV. I’m such a dork ;o)
We’ll definitely be watching these videos in our house for awhile I can tell! I’ll post an update on our progress as we learn more, but for now….”Adios amigos!” ;o) See, I’m practically fluent.

My husband’s whole side of the family is fluent in Spanish, and while my children have a decent amount of Spanish vocabulary under their belts, they need more conversational practice. This sounds like it would be great fun.
I subscribe in Google Reader.
I would love for us to learn another language!
