Educational Insights: Fraction Formula Giveaway

Welcome to Day 7 of my 10,000 Subscriber Celebration! Today I’m giving away a super fun game from Educational Insights called Fraction Formula!

What is the Fraction Formula Game?

The game comes with 4 clear cylinders and 52 fraction tiles (3 halves, 4 thirds, 4 fourths, 5 fifths, 6 sixths, 8 eighths, 10 tenths, and 12 twelfths.) There are also 52 game cards and scoring cards.

The game is really easy to follow and quite fun! Each player gets one cylinder. You shuffle the fraction game cards and place them in a pile face down. The fraction tiles go in the center of the table as well. Each player gets a turn taking a card from the deck. They place the indicated tile into their cylinder. They have have the option to skip their turn if they wish. The first player to fill their cylinder to 1 whole wins.

What Did We Think?

Before playing the game, we used the cylinders as teaching tool to introduce the concept of a fraction. It was really easy to show that 6 pieces of 1/6 fraction tiles fill the cylinder. We were also able to show equivalencies by matching 1/2 tile to two 1/4 tiles and so on.

My kids are a little young to understand fractions, but using the tiles and cylinders was a great way to introduce them to the concept.
