Happy Thanksgiving!

What better day to talk about food? I love the holidays, because it means that I’ll be eating spaghetti, meatballs, garlic bread, turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes and pie, most of which I didn’t have to cook ;o) And knowing that December is right around the corner, I wanted to get my meal plan out for you all asap! So here it is…

I always get a few of the same questions when I post this, so here are some answers to those FAQ questions:

1. Do you really cook at home this often?

A: No, I do TRY to follow my plan as best I can to save my sanity, however we do eat out and weekends are really up in the air. I find that having a schedule takes a LOT of stress off of me. I know that I don’t have to worry about what to make, it’s already planned for me. It’s much easier to change up the menu or eat out spur of the moment than it is to come up with a meal off the top of my head at the end of a long day of homeschooling! And as you know, Friday is our Expedition Earth country meal night out!

2. How much do you spend on groceries each month?

A: It really varies depending on diapers and such. I make my shopping list off of this menu each week.  I have found that I spend less this way because I only buy what’s on my plan for the week as opposed to a bunch of random things that don’t go together then get wasted or sit in my cupboard for months.

3. When do you do your shopping?

A: I shop on weekly on Sat. or Sun. so I’m ready for the week ahead, that way when I go to make something I’m sure to have all of the ingredients. And things like produce don’t go bad because I shop each week.

4. Do you have a shopping list for your menu plan?

A: No, not right now. I’ve thought about it, but since everyone has different items in their cupboards, I decided it would be difficult to do, and frankly I haven’t had time. I simply look at my schedule and make my shopping list based on things I know I need for each meal.

Hope you all have a great holiday and if you have any other questions, please feel free to email me: homeshcooler confessions {at} gmail {dot} com (no spaces, no {})

  1. I love that you post these on your blog. I also do a meal plan but have been slacking the last couple months. Every time I see yours come on here I think I should really do mine :)www.at-home-with-mom.blogspot.com

  2. I do a weekly plan but like the way you do it too. It's all about trying. We have nights where we make something not on the plan or change plans during the day, but it's a starting point & it greatly reduces the temptation to eat/order out when you know you have everything you need to cook well for your family at home. We eat at least 6 nights/week.
