This was our first trip to the zoo this summer and we had a great time. I made these super cute little flipcards to carry with us as we visited each animal. I downloaded the zoo cards from Early Learning Activities, but sadly I ran out of laminate the night before and so we couldn’t bring them with us!
My plan was to have the kids bring a pencil and write down something fun on the back of each card as we saw that animal. For the little kiddos I was going to let them put a sticker on each animal signifying that they saw it since they can’t write. So, it was a good idea, but we’ll have to do it next time.
If you’re interested here are some pics of our trip, and I’m not sure how, but the kids still managed to have fun without their books. Maybe it was because we were celebrating my son’s 6th birthday and there was candy involved. I pouted some ;o)
I posted about zoo activities that you can do at http://www.togethertime4families.com/2010/04/zoo-fun.html and follow up activities at http://www.togethertime4families.com/2010/05/follow-up-literacy-activities-for-your.htmlStop by and find something new perhaps to add to your zoo activities!.Susan Togethertime4families.com
I just wanted to say your site has been so helpful to me =)
A fun fieldtrip! I asked my son where he wants to go on a field trip when public school starts ( thats our homeschool appreciation week!) he said the zoo!
What a great trip even if you didn't have the books! Next time 🙂
I've been following your blog for several months now and let me just say, it has been SOOO helpful! I've just finished my first ever week of homeschooling (a kindergartener and a Pre-K) and already it has been a roller coaster ride for me! Thanks for all your printables that make this more do-able!
Love the cards. I am off to print them right now and we have a zoo trip schedule Sept. I am going to use your idea. You always have such great ideas for your home schooling. Thanks for sharingAnna-Marie
I love this. I just found out that the big zoo is having a homeschool day in October (read: discounted rates!).I will certainly be hanging onto these ideas for our trip. YAY>
