We found this fun activity on Blissfully Domestic today! It looked so easy I had to try it, especially since I hadn’t planned anything else for the afternoon out of sheer laziness, and I had everything for this already.
Supplies:
- Construction Paper
- Elmer’s Glue
- Baking Sheet or Plastic Tray
- Crayons or Chalk
- Salt
Instructions:
- Place construction paper in plastic tray or cookie sheet (This is to minimize the mess!).
- Draw images on construction paper using crayons or chalk.
- Trace the drawings with glue (I had to help my 3 yr old with this part).
- Have fun pouring or sprinkling salt over the glue, shift the salt around to make sure all the glue is covered. Empty the excess salt off your paper and let it dry (shake off salt once more after the pictures dry)
(Note: This craft is as easy as it looked and the kids loved it!)
That does look like fun and I have everything for it too! I think we'll do it tomorrow!
We love salt paintings. The only thing to keep in mind – it still sheds even when dry, but at least it's not as messy as glitter.
You know I haven't tried this yet, but it certainly looks less messy than glitter…..
It really wasn't that messy at all, and cleans up MUCH better than glitter! Plus its puffy, like puffy paint. But yes, salt keeps coming off after its dried…I'll toss em once the kids don't care.
This looks like alot of fun. Thanks for sharing it. Can you tell me where you got your trays from? I have been looking for them.Blessings, Loridltenhaken@yahoo.com
I bought my trays from Lakeshore Learning: http://www.lakeshorelearning.com/seo/ca|searchResults~~p|BX532~~.jsp I’ve also seen them at Oriental Trading and they’re cheaper, but I’d already had mine for awhile when I found these! http://www.orientaltrading.com/ui/browse/processRequest.do?demandPrefix=12&sku;=57/9001&mode;=Searching&erec;=2&D;=trays&Ntt;=trays&Ntk;=all&Dx;=mode+matchallpartial&Ntx;=mode+matchallpartial&y;=0&N;=0&requestURI;=processProductsCatalog&x;=0&sd;=Plastic+Cool+Craft+Trays&cm;_mmc=Linkshare-_-Linkshare-_-Linkshare-_-MerchandiserFeed&siteID;=kYSqvPCzY2A-d21lFfQXxVeBQ70TQO577g Hope that helps! I use these trays all the time for glitter, moon sand, play doh, beading, anything where stuff can be messy or roll on to the ground which is the Tiny Tot’s domain! LOL!
very nice – my boys would love this!
Thanks! Just what I needed on a day where I didn't have quite enough activities to keep my little one busy 🙂 We just incorporate it into the unit we're doing right now on Groceries, and it was perfect!
You can always cover the drawing with plastic wrap to prevent it from "shedding" all over the floor.
Love your blog! Just wanted to say though that the Oriental Trading trays are considerably smaller than the ones you use from Lakeshore. Found that out the hard way! The bigger ones seem way better; the ones from Oriental Trading are "regular" sized and you could probably get them from a dollar store. My fault for not checking measurements–just wouldn't want someone else to make the same mistake! Thanks for sharing all your great ideas!
