I am making a shift towards Abeka for my 2nd grader, the curriculum arrived today and looks promising! I’m still trying to figure out how to include the fun stuff from MFW into it so we’ll see how this year pans out! We’ll start our new stuff either next week or the following week depending on when my workbooks arrive!
For today, she did her Phonics sheets.
Her Logic Links puzzles, she liked these!
Her Math U See, she’s been struggling with this week, so I’m not sure if I should repeat it, or step back or what…this is my current debate, math isn’t her strong suit and I thought Math U See would help, and i think the blocks do, but not sure the rate of the curriculum is quite right…maybe I’m moving too fast through it? I don’t know…decisions, decisions…
I am so glad to see a blog with things for older children. i have a first grader and a preschooler. As well as a soon to be Tot. I have found countless blogs for my pre schoolerbut not to many for my first grader. I was going to ask how you are liking Math U See. We are currently using BJU. but I was thinking about making a change for second grade.
Hi! We like it, but she has a hard time with Math, so I'm doing a combination of Abeka and MUS just for a variation on approach. I think the blocks really helped her visualize what was going on, and I do like it, but they go in a different order and aren't quite as spiral as Abeka, so we do that one just for practice and plus its all pretty and colorful!
I am considering MFW for 2nd grade history/geography next year. Can you buy just specific books for this? It looked to me like you had to buy one of 2 "packages", one which cost $199. I am wondering if you plan to continue with MFW next year and if this is worth the money?
Christy:You can buy a lot of the books on amazon or ebay, but for the teacher's manual you'll either have to buy it from My Father's World, which means you have to buy the package, or maybe you can find it on http://www.homeschoolclassifieds.com or ebay.
