Hi everyone, I’m excited to post my next letter, Letter C, we will be having fun with Caterpillars! We had a lot of fun with this one, hopefully you all will too 🙂
Letter C Memory Verse:
Children obey your parents in the Lord; for this is right. Ephesians 6:1
Read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and put up the letter C on our Alphabet Tree! You can download my small alphabet letters here.
Song time:
Hide ‘Em in Your Heart Vol 1
Hide ‘Em In Your Heart Songs – Vol 2
A fun caterpillar puzzle. I laminated and cut into as many pieces as my prek can handle!
Letter C Scavenger Hunt: Have your child take one of their workboxes, or a basket and fill it with objects that begin with the letter “C”.
Letter C Tracing: I laminate this then use with Expo Dry Erase Markers for pre-writing practice skills.
Caterpillar Dice Game: You can either use a number die, or a dot die. I made 2 boards also, one without numbers and one with. The one without numbers, I will have her roll the die and move that many spots. The ones with numbers I’ll have her roll the die and move to the next spot with that number on it. I included small disks for game pieces, but you could also use bingo markers, beans, or whatever you have. Also, instead of using this game with dice, you can just ask questions like what does the “A” say, and if they are right they get to move one space. Its a fun way to review phonics too!
Note: To get all of the games in my Letter of the Week curriculum, please check out the curriculum in my store!
Letter C lacing Caterpillar, I printed him, laminated it, cut it out and hole punched him!
Color matching and upper/lowercase matching caterpillar puzzles. Since the capital C and lowercase c are basically the same, I just added them to the color puzzles. I printed it, laminated it then cut the caterpillars out then cut them in half.
Caterpillar magnet page. I love these magnets from Amazon, they stick well, but are not too strong, and they have a little lip that makes for easy grabbing. I use these magnets from Amazon: 100 Pcs Power Magnets.
Caterpillar Clip Cards:Â I got the mini-clips from Wal-mart craft section, but she also has colorful paperclips she uses as well. Really you could use anything, even bingo markers or beans, etc. Just put the correct amount on the card based on the number.
A fun size sorting game, I have her put the correct size caterpillar on the game board, but you could also have them put the sizes in order from big to small, or small to big.
Caterpillar pattern activity, my husband informed me that I really needed to put on another yellow caterpillar and another red one on the bottom two grids to show that the pattern repeats at that point, so I apologize, you may have to help your child with this one…I’ll do better next time LOL!
I love these letter matching disks. Using my letter disks, match the correct letters to the caterpillar worksheet. For more of a challenge have students match lowercase disks to the upper case letters.
C Do A Dot Page: I made this worksheet to be used with Dot-A-Dot Markers, or you could also color this in, or even glue cotton balls to it!
Graphing cards : they cards go from 1-10. You can have your kids put bingo dots on the squares, beans, cheerios, m&ms;, whatever. I usually laminate it then have her color the boxes in with a dry erase marker.
Counting Caterpillars, Put the number cards in the box, then have them count that many caterpillars to place on the leaf.
Caterpillar number order! I laminated then cut out the circles, and will have her put the caterpillar pieces in numerical order. Per reader request, (I updated this file to include numbers 1-20.)
Letter C lacing cards, I print these on cardstock then laminate for durability, then use shoe laces or yarn for lacing.
A Simple Crab Maze from Kumon’s Easy Maze book. They also have harder mazes.
Letter Collage Worksheets: The download includes letters A-Z as well as a collage idea sheet. We use the collage items as objects to decorate our letters for an alphabet book. We also color, paint, and stamp them. Since we use both upper and lowercase, I have provided both for you! Click here to download the Letter Collages:
Gigantic Floor Caterpillar: I put them all out on the floor and call out numbers and she has to hop to the correct number. I printed this on cardstock and then laminated for durability! If you prefer the traditional 1-10 rectangle cards, I have those included as well.
Letter C Coloring Page: You can paint or color this with markers, crayons, colored pencils, anything you like!
Finally some literature that will be fun:
And of course we have to finish off with The Very Hungry Caterpillar. I made a fun graphing sheet that they can fill out as you read the story, you can download the graph sheet here.
I also made lacing cards for the story as well. I punched holes in all the pieces then tied a piece of yarn to the caterpillar. As you read the story they lace on the items he eats. At the end they lace on the cocoon. I have them put the whole thing in a bag that I say is the cocoon, I put it behind my back and switch the bag out for another one containing the butterfly. After we discuss what happens to the caterpillar, I give them back their bag and let them reach inside and pull out the butterfly. They LOVE this! You can download the Hungry Caterpillar cards here!
We finished up with an caterpillar craft for fun. Did you know Caterpillars have 12 eyes? We were planning on an egg carton caterpillar, but did these instead. Use large popsicle sticks and glue pom-poms to it, pipe cleaner antennae, eyes and sparkles!
We glued cotton balls onto a letter C to make it into a Caterpillar:
Family Fun Night: I’m sure for our fun food we’ll have to do something like Cookies and watch Clifford or Care Bears. I suggested Chicken and Math Circus, but that didn’t go over so well LOL!
That is awesome~!! I am super impressed.
Thank you so much! I just found you through Homeschool Creations, and I'm so impressed! I am having to be very creative with my 4 year old as I simply cannot call anything educational "school." He's very bright and can count to 100 and is able to write most of his letters, so I'm not stressing too much, but I'm gonna be visiting yours and Jolanthe's sites more often!!
Hi! Thanks so much for the time you take to share these ideas! They really are awesome! My girls have loved the ones I have done with them! I'm new to blogs, just becoming familair, and I visit yours probably the most. (smile) I hope that these resources will be available for a long time. They don't delete to make more space or after a certain amount of time, do they???One other question, are you doing the letters in order or are you skipping around? How much time do you typically spend on a letter, on average? Okay, that's two questions. Haha. Thanks again!!
Hi, I typically spend a week per letter. And, no, the downloads don't expire…so far I'm good on space and 4shared just gave all their free member a christmas gift of 10GB free space! Yipee!
You have a great site! Thank you so much for sharing.
Thanks for your blog, great ideas and activities. My daughter has just started Prep and she was over ready for school, but my 3 year old son isn't as ready and I'm primary school trained but not early childhood so looking for ideas to do with Dominic at home. Thanks again.
I love, love, love your ideas. I am using several with my kiddos in the morning. Linked back to you here. Your print outs are so colorful and cover such a broad range of skills. I'm excited for morning school time!
I can not find the "C" coloring page. Is it here and I don't see it? I ordered your CD and it does not seem to be there either. I do see it mentioned in the lesson plans. Thanks! Terry H.
Anonymous: Sorry, it looks like I didn't make a letter C coloring page. Sorry about that, I'll either add one or update the lesson plans!
Wow, I'm very impressed with the wide range of resources you have produced for your letters. I hope you don't mind but I have included a link to this page on my blog to fit in with some stuff I did to go with the hungry caterpillar book. As always I like to give credit where it is due and you sure deserve it! You can check it out here
