Hi friends, and welcome to another Tip Tuesday! Now that we’re in the trenches of preparing for high school I wanted to share my tips on what to do to prepare for high school, how to decide on coursework, create transcripts, and help planning the future course for your student.
Homeschooling through the upper grades can be an overwhelming and intimidating thought that can create alarm in some of the most relaxed homeschooling parents. A little planning will go a long way to creating an effective and positive high school experience for both you and your student.
You will want to discuss future goals and career ideas with your student. If college is in their future, make sure to take time to look at the entrance requirements for your prospective college so your student will be able to meet those requirements upon graduation from high school. Starting with your end goal in mind, build your curriculum to fit your goals and any state requirements.
You may also have your students take an aptitude test during 8th grade, or prior to the start of 9th grade. This is great in helping students find strengths and interests as they prepare for their adult careers. You can find free aptitude tests online. Use the tests as a guide in helping your student, but don’t let them deter students from pursing their interests.

I’m in ninth grade, and I was wondering if you have a 9th grade schedule?
I don’t have one yet, but will soon!
Thank you so much, Erica! My twins technically would be entering 9th grade in the Fall, however, there are certain subjects and areas that they are delayed in. Should I still proceed with making these plans for high school or would you suggest we just keep going at the pace we are until I feel they are ready? I honestly worry that I have failed them because we are not moving at a faster pace. I hate thinking they are “behind”. They are the most amazing kids and I am so blessed to be their Mom.
Thank you! I enjoyed this video as we are wrapping up 8th and making these exact choices for 9th. We live abroad and I was wondering if you are planning on doing any accredited classes for your 9th grade student? Or if you plan to at all during her High School years? I don’t think I quite understand wether or not this is important. Any input you can offer will be greatly appreciated.
Hi Jamie,
The colleges we’re looking into do not care what curriculum we use, and our state is also lenient in that area so we’re allowed to use whatever we want. I’ll be sharing our 9th grade curriculum soon!
