Welcome to day 8 of the 2012 ~ 10 Days of Homeschooling Blog Hop! This year my topic is 10 Days of Classic Literature. Over the 10 day series I will be releasing one unit study each day, for a total of 10 units you can go through with your students!
Psst….GIVEAWAY ALERT!…at the end of the blog hop I’ll be offering a Giveaway for the ENTIRE set of Classical Literature unit studies, so make sure to enter at the bottom of this post!
Each unit study contains educational lessons, activities and a fun lap book that your students will work on as they progress through the book. They also include book reports, vocabulary, critical thinking, story time lines, and comprehension. These studies are geared towards grades Kindergarten-4th, but can probably be adapted for older students as well.
I really designed these units to be a fun addition to reading the classics. I didn’t want them to be too stressful for myself or my kiddos, but instead give them something fun to do along with the stories to help them remember what they’ve learned in a fun hands-on way. The lap books included are wonderful for reviewing subject matter, and a great creative interactive homeschooling tool.
And without any further ado…here is today’s unit:
Stuart Little by E.B. White is a fanciful story about a young mouse named Stuart who goes to live with the Little family in New York. The family soon adjusts to their new “little’” brother. The story chronicles how the family adapts socially and structurally to their new smaller son. Of course Stuart gets caught in several adventures along the way including getting caught in a window-blind, taking part in a boat race in Central Park. When Stuart’s best friend, Margalo the bird, disappears, Stuart sets out on a voyage to find his missing friend! Fun characters, a valiant little mouse, and constant adventure make this a delightful read!
In this unit students will learn about the major characters, write a letter, learn vocabulary, and ways to be helpful around the house!
They’ll also learn about canoes, mice, recycling, logical thinking, and even create their own version of how the story will end. They will also work on predictions, and a final book report.
The units also include forms for predicting story plots, character analysis, identifying the protagonist and antagonist, a story timeline, and a final book report on the novel.

I would love to win this pack!!!
Ciulkd sure use this!! Currently reading Stuart Little with my class…Great stuff… 🙂
Oh my…..just saw my quick fingers spelling errors!!! Sorry!
Love the studies!
You do such a great job on your lapbook. We have done 3 of yours so far and would love to have the opportunity to do the rest with my kiddos.
I got really excited to try to win…then I realized that I can’t be on Facebook at school, I can’t twitter at school and I can only follow on Pinterest. Then, I noticed the date was 2011…..so you can understand when I found this in 2018, this book is still such a classic. I have 14 students that are struggling 7th grade readers that are about at the 4-5th grade reading level. We are going to try Stuart Little for our first novel that they have ever read. Last year they got very little support so I thought a classic would be successful for them. I love your ideas. Keep posting!
