Happy Thursday friends! It’s time for block #11 in my Sew With Me Quilt-a-long! Join me as I teach you how to make some of the most fun and classic quilt blocks!

Throughout this series, I hope to teach you some new skills, tips, and tricks, and at the end of the series, we will have a fun selection of blocks to sew together into a sampler quilt!

Block #11 is a classic and vintage block known as the Criss-Cross Quilt Block

This fun block is sometimes referred to as the cross block, the plus block, the swiss cross block, and a variety of other names too! One of the first plus quilts, The Red Cross Quilt, was made in 1915 using red fabric to symbolize the red cross. Members of the community paid 10 cents to have their names embroidered on the quilt. Each block had a red cross symbol and about 40 names embroidered around it!

The original plus block was set like a traditional 9-patch, but we’re stepping it up a notch, and turning it on point! And in the spirit of scrappy, we are going to take it a step further and make it super colorful to give it a little added interest!

In today’s lesson, I will show you how to turn a block on point to give it a little added interest!
