“ Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it.” ~ Proverbs 22:6

My Thoughts for the Week:
“If Jesus Himself had trouble getting through to His disciples – even with miracles – we human parents shouldn’t be surprised when the process of training our children hits some difficulties.” ~ Sally Clarkson
Wouldn’t it be nice if you could tell your child something once…just once…and have them remember and even obey it! I absolutely loved how Sally encouraged us this week! It’s so easy to get frustrated with our children’s repeated mistakes thinking our words are never going to sink in! But just as the disciples finally became true apostles, after much patience and perseverance on Jesus’ part, so will our own children learn to be strong young men and women after God’s own heart.
It’s so humbling to think of how many times my Savior has shown me patience! I care not even remember all the foolish things I’ve done, and frankly still do. But yet I expect my kids to get things instantly. I mean seriously, if I can get a “Decaf-grande-white-chocolate-mocha-singleshot-nonfat–no whip” in about 30 seconds, why can’t my kids remember to to put their dirty clothes in the hamper?
Honestly…this whole motherhood gig would be so much easier if I were just perfect. Sadly, God had other plans for my life. But the good news is that I know He will finish the work He began in me, even if it takes my whole life. Whoaaa…I just had an epiphany…it will take my whole life!
Sally reminds us that as a mother, we need to take care to consistently model to our children what it looks like to depend on God in all circumstances. To pray without ceasing, and to be in the Word daily. Chapters 13 and 14 were full of wonderful illustrations of how we can use our every day life to teach our children to live by the Word of God. I love how she says that “As I model such disciplined thinking for my children as I train them how to think for themselves, I not only arm them for their future spiritual battles; I also arm myself.” ~ Sally Clarkson
And just as she encouraged us to persevere, so did our Heavenly Father. “ Therefore, do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised.” Hebrews 10:35-36
Dear Father,
Thank you so much for your patience with me as I muddle my way through this calling of motherhood. Thank you that I don’t have to be perfect, and for showing me tangible ways to train up my children using your Word. Please give our family a love for your Word and help me to model dependence upon You to these precious children so when they are old they will not depart from You. Amen.

Um…yeah. 🙂
Really puts it into perspective huh! LOL! :o)
