“Yet often, I think, we get lost in these multitudinous tasks that rule our lives, and we lose sight of the underlying purpose behind all these tasks, which is to prepare our children to go into the world and make disciples for our Lord.” – Sally Clarkson

My thoughts for this week:
Well, that’s me in a nutshell! Always distracted and overwhelmed with daily tasks of keeping my household running. Of course I forget the main purpose behind the monotony of the laundry, who wouldn’t!
But that doesn’t change the fact that we will be held responsible for what we did with these little hearts we are given. And how faithful we were in seeking to pass on His message and purpose to them.
One of my goals this week is to make more of an effort to show my children their individual potential and inspire them for God’s purposes!
Sally gives us a few examples of how she used her children’s strengths to encourage them and to show them how God may use them in the future. I love that! I definitely notice a change in their demeanor when we talk about how God can use their gifts. I’ve even had them come up to me and ask me to tell them again what their gifts are and why that’s a good thing.
Not sure what your child’s gift is? Be in prayer, and take notice of little things. For example my preschooler loves to sing, she’s also a total prayer warrior already! She could easily be a worship leader one day, ushering people into the presence of the Lord through music and prayer! My oldest is always making little gifts and cards for people. She may be used greatly to encourage and comfort those in need.
And I never realized that me encouraging my children could in return encourage my role as a mother. But when you see those big eyes looking to you for guidance and encouragement, and you lead them straight to their Lord, it all becomes clear.
“As we seek to give our children the gift of inspiration, we will find ourselves being pulled down the road of our own purpose and significance, and we will intuitively verify the importance of God’s design for motherhood.” – Sally Clarkson

I had just read an article called Motherhood as a Mission Field (http://www.desiringgod.org/blog/posts/motherhood-as-a-mission-field) when I read your quote from Sally. I'm getting double-whammied this morning… But in a good way! :-)Here is a quote that really jumped out at me from the Mission Field article: "Jim Elliot famously said, “He is no fool who gives up that which he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.” Motherhood provides you with an opportunity to lay down the things that you cannot keep on behalf of the people that you cannot lose. They are eternal souls, they are your children, they are your mission field."
Yes, it is so important, and fun! to think about my children's giftings and then to be a part of seeing them develop- thanks for the great thoughts :).
GOT to get this book! Thanks so much for sharing your encouraging thoughts! A good reminder!!
