So we’re totally loving our iPad 2 over here. We use it daily in our homeschool for one reason or another. Quite often it is to keep the Teeny Tot (3 years old) occupied, but we’ve also used it for the older kiddos as well.  I shared some of our favorite apps back in my first post on Educational iPad Apps,  and wanted to share some of our new favorites as of late.

Educational Apps for Older Kids:

Montessori Words: This is great for spelling practice, it also allows for free word creation which makes it fun to use with our All About Spelling as well.

Real Chalk HD: We use this for our All About Spelling practice.  The app simulates a real chalk board where you can erase and change the size and color of the chalk. The kids love it, and it just helps make spelling practice more fun!

Words with Friends: Strawberry Shortcake plays this game with her Nana and her Dad. It’s a fun way to practice words as well as logical thinking skills too!

  1. Thanks so much for sharing! We’re working on potty training with our almost three year old. She has been very resistant until we implemented a new rule – she’s only allowed to play iPad if she’s sitting on the potty! Works like a charm and she’s doing SO much better now!

  2. Thanks Erica…A really great listing of great apps, I have many on my daughters IPad, and I hope I get it back after updates real soon. My last years class loved using the apps. Rule was first a constructive app and then a fun app! I am saving this list for future reference…Thanks!

  3. Erica – I’m part of a team that built an educational app store called KinderTown. We focus on helping parents find the best educational apps for kids 3-6 years old. Every app is reviewed by our team of early childhood educators and we only include the BEST apps – that is apps that are engaging and have significant educational value.

I thought you and your readers might find the KinderTown app a usefulresource for discovering quality educational apps. (Oh, and it’s free) http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/kindertown/id463524703?mt=8

  4. I also have found these educational apps to he very useful. Star fall ABC’s and Word Bingo are favorites in our house. It’s certainly exciting to see technology impact learning opportunities. Some other apps I recommend are Alphabet Fun 2 and Letter School. Again, favorites in our house.
