Hi friends! I hope you all enjoyed last week’s sale and were able to get some great deals! Since today is a holiday I will be spending time with my family and hopefully enjoying some nice weather. They’re calling for rain so we’ll have to see. I think someone forgot to remind Colorado that it’s typically sunny out!
Anyhoo…
I’d like to take time today to thank all of the men and women who have given their lives while serving in the United States Armed forces. I’d also like to encourage you to pray for their families and our nation.
A Little History
For those of you who don’t know, Memorial Day (originally named Decoration Day) originated after the American Civil war to commemorate both Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the Civil War.
Though there were other instances of decorating soldiers’ graves, the first publicized observance of this holiday was held on May 1, 1865 in Charleston, South Carolina. The event was covered by the New York Tribune and many other national papers. In 1967 Memorial Day became the official holiday name.
By the 20th century Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died while serving in our military. Today we still decorate soldiers’ graves with flowers as a token of our remembrance of them and their service to our country.
Happy Memorial Day!
I hope you all have a wonderful day! We will be celebrating with family and friends today, and I hope you all enjoy the day as well!
