Why I Love Fabric Spool Ornaments?
- Quick and Easy: You can whip up a bunch of these in no time, making them perfect for last-minute decorations or gifts.
- Customizable: Use any fabric you have on hand—whether it’s holiday-themed, solid colors, or even scraps from other projects.
- Festive Charm: These ornaments add a cozy, homemade feel to your holiday decor, making your space feel extra special.
What You’ll Need:
- Wooden spools (found at craft stores or online)
- Fabric Scraps: I used 1-1/2″ x 6″ strips
- Quilt Batting: I used 1-1/2″ x 12″ strips
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks (I recommend a full-sized glue gun!)
- Ribbon or twine for hanging
- Yarn Needle
- Wooden Beads
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Prepare Your Fabric: Cut your fabric into strips. The size will depend on how much of the spool you want to cover. Generally, 1-2 inches wide and long enough to wrap around the spool works well.
- Wrap the Spools With Batting: Using your hot glue gun, place a small dot of glue on the spool and attach one end of the quilt batting strip. Begin wrapping the batting around the spool, and securing it with glue when you reach the end.
- Wrap the Spools With Fabric: Add another dot of glue, and attach your fabric strip. Wrap the fabric around the spool. Fold the fabric end under about 1/4″ and then secure it to the spool with glue.
- Add the Hanger: Using your yarn needle and a 20″ strand of twine, loop the twine through the center of the spool. Thread a wooden bead on to the twine. Run the twine back through the wooden bead, but hang on to the loop you’ve created. Then run the twine back through the spool. Tie the twine in a knot at the top of the wooden bead. Thread another wooden bead on to the bottom of the spool with the twine and tie another knot to secure the bead to the spool. Trim off any excess twine.
- Display and Enjoy: Once all your ornaments are finished, hang them up and admire your handiwork!
Enjoy!
