I have a wonderful and very easy breakfast recipe for you today! This is a sausage & egg breakfast bake recipe that my mom usually makes for Christmas morning. Aside from the holiday memories it conjures up, one of my favorite things about this recipe is that you make it the day before, then in the morning simply pull it out and bake! It’s a great help on school mornings!

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb bulk breakfast sausage
  • 6 slices white bread
  • 1 c. shredded cheddar cheese
  • 6 eggs
  • 2 c. milk
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. black pepper
  • 1 tsp. dry mustard
  • 1/2 lb sliced mushrooms

Directions:

  1. Brown sausage in skillet and drain well.
  2. Tear bread into pieces and place in the bottom of a lightly greased 9x 13 casserole dish.
  3. Cover bread with sausage, cheese, and mushrooms.
  4. Beat eggs, milk, salt, pepper and mustard and pour over the ingredients in the pan.
  5. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  6. Place in COLD oven, then set oven to 350 °F for 45 minutes.

Serve with fresh fruit and enjoy!

  1. This is very similar to a recipe we use (we leave out the mushrooms). It was my grandmother’s recipe that she passed down. Our family enjoys it every Christmas morning because I can make it the night before and slide it in the oven while the kiddos are opening presents Christmas morn. Since everyone has worked up an appetite while unwrapping presents, this is an easy crowd pleaser.
    Thanks for sharing!
