My first review for TOS Homeschool Crew is a new e- Book called Travel Kits by The old Schoolhouse. The Travel Kits book is a wonderful resource for families that travel often. It contains 93 pages of fun filled ideas complete with colorful pictures to help you create your own super fun, creative travel kits all for just $12.45!
So What is a Travel Kit?
A Travel Kit is a collection of items geared to entertain your tiny passengers, thus making the trip more pleasant for everyone. The items are chosen, purchased (or baked, rented, checked out of the library, or crafted), and then wrapped individually. The components of your travel kit are assembled in an appealing, creative, hardy “container” that will easily fit in your vehicle, within easy reach of the passengers (or Mom’s reach, if you have very young children). Travel Kits are also a great way to bless friends, relatives and neighbors!
What’s Included?
- Small cars, Big Cars
- Small Price, Big Price
- Packs for Boys/Girls

How Much Planning Does It Take?
A little planning is required—but not much which is why I like this! You just need the basic information:
- The number of travelers and their ages
- Length of the trip (in hours, days, miles, or all three)
- If possible, some of the interests/tastes of the travel kit recipients
Once you’re armed with the above info, you’re ready to put your kits together!
What Do I Think About Travel Kits?
We recently went on a 5 hour road trip with 4 kids ages 7, 6, 4, and 1. Most people look at me like I’ve lost it when I tell them we chose to do it! I made small Travel Kits for each of our kids using small backpacks. I have to say they were a LIFE SAVER! The kids each had their own snacks, games, coloring, toys and even a couple special prizes in their packs. They absolutely LOVED it! There was no fighting, complaining, arguing, just pure excitement!
I waited to pull them out until we’d been on the road for a little while and they were all excited to see what was in their packs. It was like Christmas. Even the Teeny Tot was thrilled to see what she had. I made identical packs for the 3 older kids, then a special one for the teeny tot. I chose mostly cheap games from the Dollar Store and used snack baggies for things like crayons, snacks, etc.
My favorite part of the Travel Kits eBook is the color pictures. I’m a visual person, so this really helped me figure out how to put a kit together. I also loved all the ideas included in the eBook. It was very easy to pick and choose things that I knew my kids would like. In my opinion The Travel Kits eBook is an excellent resource for those that spend a lot of time in the car, you can even modify it to be educational!
