Buen Dia’ and welcome to our Expedition Earth week on Peru!
Did you know that Peru’s Macchu Pichu was named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in 2007, along with The Great Wall of China and the Taj Mahal? That was just one of the cool things we learned about this week.
Read on to see what else we did…
Here are some more of the things we covered this week:
- Located Peru and The Andes Mountain Range on the map, and completed our worksheet
- Learned about the Peruvian Flag and colored in our worksheet
- Learned how to say “Hello” in Spanish – Hola (Hello) Buen Dia’ (Good Day)!
- Prayed for the people of Peru
- Learned a Peruvian Song
- Completed our mini lap book activity
- Learn about the 3rd Wonder of the World: Machu Picchu
- Learned about and classified 6 animals of Peru
- Learned more about Peru by National Geographic Kids
- Read: Usborne Encyclopedia of World Geography
- Made Silver Wind Chimes (sorry forgot to take a pic!)
- We were supposed to make Dulche de leche, but ran out of time!
- Peru grows the worlds softest avocados, so we tried a yummy stuffed avocado recipe this week.
So of course we started off our week by finding Peru on the map, then stamping our passports!
We learned about the geography of Peru and worked on our mapping worksheet.
We also learned all about the flag of Peru, and learned what the colors and symbols mean.
We learned how to say “hello” in Spanish, and added our card to our “hello in all of the languages” wall. (I just made that name up. We just put the hello cards up all together so we could review them regularly.
We filled in our lapbook mini-book and added it to our world lapbook with our favorite facts about Peru.
We learned about six really fun animals found in Peru and then added them to our animal wall.
Look at these little babies, this was back in 2010 when we went through Expedition Earth the first time! Miss Lady Bug was only 2 so she didn’t get to do it the first time around. Also, if you look really closely, two of them picked the exact same animal this time around! LOL!
And we created a postcard to “send” to folks back home telling them all about our adventures learning about Peru. This has become a favorite activity for my girls.

My kids love Expidition Earth!! They always say it’s actually not school, because it’s so fun. The other day time was not on my side, so I told my son we were going to skip and do it the next day. He grabbed his binder and went ahead and did what he assumed was for the next lesson. Thank you so much for sharing this!!!
I am from Peru…this is awesome!!! Love to see kids learning about my country 🙂
